MahaNakhon, the tallest building of Thailand, was officially launched with lights and sounds shows in Bangkok on Monday, August 29, 2016. With 77-floors the MahaNakhon skyscraper is now Bangkok’s tallest building. Lights were beamed onto the 314-metre-tall structure and skywards from the building as its developer Pace Development Corp was celebrating the 18-billion-baht project on Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Road in Silom area.
Finding the best spot
So, apparently everyone in Bangkok knew about the event. And as most of the Thai people are into photography, all the good locations like Cloud 47 Rooftop Bar were already fully booked. Okay, maybe I should have planned earlier in advance, but yeah, I’m more the spontaneous person (I’m still not sure if this is a good or bad habbit). Anyway, on Friday before the event I asked my friends at Le Meridien Bangkok Hotel if I could go on their rooftop. I remembered they had a pretty nice view so I thought lets give it a chance. I was lucky that the hotel confirmed my request and so I stood on their rooftop together with my friends Brian and Philipp.
The show started late due to heavy rain just minutes before the official opening. But once it started, it was really beautiful to look at. First, I was so focused on my camera settings that I couldn’t really enjoy it. But after some time I stopped taking pics and just enjoyed the show.
What is inside the skyscraper?
The gigantic skyscraper has a hotel, retail space, bars, restaurants and an observation deck. Exclusive condominiums under the management of Ritz-Carlton Residences start at 40 million baht. There are 200 units in the building. So if you have some money left, please go ahead. 🙂
However, Mahanakhon may not have its tallest-tower status for long as the Rama IX Super Tower is willing to out-tall MahaNakhon with its 615 meter height. The Super Tower is expected to become the tallest tower in Southeast Asia when it’s completed in 2021.
