Living in Bangkok is fun, but from time to time you need to get out. Away from traffic, pollution and 24-hours noise. I’m lucky enough to be able to call the Conrad Koh Samui my second home in Thailand. Nope, I’m not rich and famous (only in my dreams) and you might wonder how I can afford being here so often. Well, I hit the jackpot: my partner is living and working here. That’s why I have been at the Conrad Koh Samui a few times by now and it gets me every time I’m there. Totally opposite to city life and exactly what I need every now and then.
The hotel is located in the south of Samui, a 45-minutes drive from the airport. All villas in the resorts have ocean view. The higher you stay the more spectacular the view is. The Villas itself are spacious and super comfortable.
This luxury pool villa resort was named the Global Winner of Luxury Hideaway Resort 2014 by the World Luxury Hotel Awards and the Winner of Asia’s Leading Honeymoon Resort by the World Travel Awards 2015.
The resort features 64 one-bedroom villas, 14 two-bedroom villas and 1 three-bedroom villa. The big selling point for me is that you have spectacular views of sunset anywhere you are in the resort since you’re facing west and it’s truly one of those places that there’s no reason for you to leave your suite let alone the resort. Every suite has its own infinity pool. Yes you read right…your very own private infinity pool. That’s pretty much all you need to know about this place.
Having your own private pool makes a big difference though and I usually spend a delightful hour toasting on the edge of the horizon pool looking out at the water or taking in the gorgeous sunsets. I have seen hundreds of sunsets in my life, but the sunsets in Samui are really the best. Beautiful pastel hues of orange and yellow shine bright around the sun, but as you expand your perspective the entire rainbow of colors is there. Soft baby blue and turquoise clouds float calmly through the open sky. A sunset is not a single color, and every new color adds beauty. And at Conrad Koh Samui you’ll see all kind of colors.
The freestanding villas are designed to give you maximum privacy so that even with neighbors on both sides, you pretty much won’t notice it. This really gives us a sense of total serenity. You want to jump naked into the pool? Just do it! Noone gonna see you! The suites are of course complemented by quality furnishings and designer interiors, connected with in-room technology including next-generation Apple TV-based computer systems IPTV and complimentary WiFi. Yeah! My highlight is the bathroom with a huuuuuge bathtub. And look at the view..
Conrad Koh Samui currently offers 4 restaurants: Jahn, a fine dining restaurant with Thai Cuisine and the Global Winner of the World Luxury Restaurant Awards 2016, the pool-side Azure Bar & Grill with casual meals and cocktails at all hours of the day, The Cellar, a private wine cellar featuring over 3,000 vintages and last but not least Zest, the casual all-day restaurant where I usually eat breakfast. They are planning to open another cool beach bar soon, so stay tuned for more updates.
Another cool feature are the hammocks – I saw three at the beach side and another two in the Gulf of Thailand. Isn’t this amazing? Did you ever try one? You will definitely love it! I can rest there for hours and really fall asleep. And that means waking up feeling more refreshed. My own experience was after 2 hours of sleep I’d have all this energy and want to actually get up and hit the day. The best time is during sunset hours so you can relax while enjoying the best sunset view in town.
I’m the person who likes to relax at the beach or pool, but after some time I need some action too. Otherwise I’m getting bored. And here comes my favorite feature of Conrad Koh Samui: They offer three complimentary luxury boat excursions on a daily basis! Yes, it’s free. You will go on a snorkeling trip and visit the nearby secluded island beaches in the Gulf of Thailand. Let me repeat: It’s free! Just make sure to leave some tip for the boat team as they do a fantastic job. The tour is organised by our friend from Oceana Samui Charters. They also offer Private Yachts, Catamarans, Speedboats and Jet Skis and whatever you wish for.
Check out the video below and get into the Samui lifestyle. By the way, if you see this cool blonde girl relaxing at the beach at 0:10 minutes – THAT’S ME!
For those of you who want to go shopping, the resort offers 2 complimentary shuttles to Chaweng’s Central Festival on a daily basis. Central Festival Samui describes itself as ‘the most complete and largest lifestyle shopping complex in Samui’; with three storeys and around 90,000sqm of retail space, which is located between Chaweng’s Beach Road and the nearby lake.
For a resort like this where you’re looking to just relax and live in the lap of luxury, this is the place to be. There aren’t too many resorts that can say their suites are built on stilts, have their own private infinity pool and are facing the right way to have amazing sunsets everyday. I know this review might not be objective – but seriously, it’s an awesome resort! We all deserve to be spoiled from time to time – so better safe some money and book a trip to Conrad Koh Samui soon. It’s a once in a lifetime experience!
